Mixed media sculpture Telepath examines intersecting human, industrial and ecological environments. Inspired by a Little Owl (“Athene Noctua”) living in a non-functional utility telephone pole in Central Turkey, this piece honors species’ survival and adaptive instincts despite disappearing native habitats, technological development and infrastructure. Telepath was created in 2012 for San Francisco Art Institute’s Faculty Show in the Diego Rivera Gallery and is constructed of Douglas Fir tree, ultra-chrome photographs printed on recycled paper, re-purposed utility pole parts, insulators and guy wire, recycled steel umbrella base, duff, fir needles and twigs.
